New England Furniture: Chimney Cupboard

Build a 19th century chimney cupboard

This workshop series will explore the traditional tools and methods used in making early New England furniture.

While making a bonnet chest, sometimes called a chimney cupboard, students will develop their woodworking skills, build confidence in using basic tools, and gain practical experience working in the woodshop.

This course will include instruction in edge gluing panels, cutting and fitting dado and rabbet joints, building and installing face frames and cupboard doors, and procedures for working safely with basic tools.
