Dovetailed Tool Chest
Making a traditional tool chest is both an exercise in hand-tool craftsmanship and an exploration of old-time woodworking techniques.
Students in this course will build a dovetailed chest to house a basic set of hand-tools. While practicing the techniques used to make this chest, students will develop their woodworking skills and build confidence in using traditional tools including chisels, handsaws and bench planes.
This workshop will cover the characteristics of wood and wood movement, instruction in reading and understanding furniture plans, procedures for working safely with hand tools, and time-honored techniques for laying out and cutting through and half blind dovetails. All tools and materials will be provided.
